Sempre! Team: Mid Season Highlights – Part 1

We have just crossed the halfway line of the season, with Napoli sitting top of the league table. Things have been a success thus far, and the Sempre! team have put together some of their highlights of the season.

Massimo Nuzzo

“This season has provided many amazing moments already and it’d be hard to choose just one, but my favorite moment from the first half of the season is the Lazio game, as it showed everyone that we have what it takes to win the title.

Sarri’s men still weren’t their usual selves early on in the season and going one nil down in the first half gave reason to believe that the partenopei were about to suffer their first defeat of the season. But, we came back, and boy what a comeback it was. Three goals within five minutes to take the lead (the third being an absolute beauty courtesy of Dries Mertens), and a penalty in the last minute was a statement to the rest of the league. This year, we mean business.”

Chris Kelly

“Without a doubt in my mind, this has to be given to everybody’s favourite ‘False 9’ – Dries ‘Ciro’ Mertens for his ‘blind Hail Mary’ goal away to Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico.

The game itself was being played at a time when We, I mean the Squad, we’re enjoying life both on and off the field. Regular Instagram updates from off-field morale officer and team joker, Jorginho, proved the point that these guys weren’t just a group of footballers.

They were tight, they were friends, and more importantly, they were Family. Not only that but they had each signed up to the Pre-Season ‘Scudetto Pact’ which saw them all confirm to one another, us too, what their intentions were going into the 17-18 Season…Win the League!

Mark Manganiello

“My favorite first half highlight was when Napoli beat Genoa 3-2 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris back in October. This was a memorable highlight for me as this match signified the brilliance of Dries Mertens transformation into becoming an elite striker and scoring two magnificent goals. After trailing by a goal Napoli found an equalizer with a beautiful free kick by Mertens who pulled the trigger into the bottom right corner.

Mertens then made it 2-1 fifteen minutes later in the 30th minute as he presented his quick pace and eloquent left footed touch. The Belgian received a long ball from center field by Diawara and tucked the ball off the crossbar from a tight angle without breaking a stride, beating Perin short side. The Mertens show continued as he then forced an own goal to find the back of the net off of Zukanovic’s foot securing a 3-2 win.

This was a key victory for the Partenopei as winning away to Genoa has been difficult to achieve in recent years. More importantly, this midweek match helped Napoli to regain top spot in Serie A by accumulating 28 points from 10 matches (1 win and 1 draw) and showed the league that they are serious Scudetto contenders. Since then Napoli continue to sit in first place with 51 points and have reveled their ambitions for the title as they keep finding their winning ways without their key players of Milik and Ghoulam.
AVANTI NAPOLI!!!!”

Ken Cioffredi

“My favorite moment of the season thus far has got to be Marek Hamsik’s record breaking goal. It happened in the most thrilling match of the season thus far, at home against Sampdoria.

One week after tying the record against Torino, Hamsik saw himself cement himself intp Napoli history with his 116th goal for the club. Not only did it set a new Napoli record, it was also a match winner in a match that officially saw the Partenopei crowned “Winter Champions:”
