Previous Meeting:

In the reverse fixture at the San Paolo, Napoli ran away to a 6-0 victory. This match saw a Dries Mertens hat-trick, as well as goals from Allan, Lorenzo Insigne, and Jose Callejon. Napoli also saw nearly 70% of the possession, and held Benevento to 0 shots on target.

Match Preview:

You would be forgiven for looking at the Serie A table and thinking that Sunday’s Benevento-Napoli game is a sure fire 3 points for the Partenopei.
A lot of Napoli fans are unhappy with President Aurelio De Laurentiis and Sporting Director Cristiano Giuntoli who failed to secure any new signings during the January transfer window despite being linked with a host of players, however Napoli must now focus back onto on the pitch action.
The Neapolitans  are chasing their first Scudetto since the days of Diego Maradona, and face bottom of the table Benevento who have had a shocking season so far. Napoli, however, must not fall into the trap of believing that Sunday’s game will be an easy 3 points, Benevento have improved since the first game between the two sides back in September when Napoli ran out easy 6-0 winners.
PROBABLE LINE-UPS:
Benevento: Brignoli; Letizia, Djimsiti, Billong, Venuti; Duricic, Cataladi, Memushaj; D’Alessandro, Coda, Guillerme
Napoli: Reina; Hysaj, Chiriches, Koulibaly, Mario Rui; Allan, Jorginho, Hamsik; Callejon, Mertens, Insigne
It remains to be seen if Raul Albiol will be fit for Sunday’s game, having missed the 3-1 win at home to Bologna with illness.

It’s now coming to the point of the season where every game is starting to become a must win, with Juventus hitting their top form now, Napoli can’t afford any slip up’s especially as the Parenopei sit only 1 point clear of the Bianconeri.

Key Players for Benevento:
Massimo Coda – The much travelled 29 year old striker who signed for Benevento in July of 2017 has scored 3 goals in 13 games for the Stregoni,
Marco D’Alessandro – The 26 year old Midfielder who is on a 1 year Loan from Atalanta with an obligation to buy has spent most of his career on Loan at different clubs, he has hit 1 goal in 4 games for Benevento.
Prediction: Although many people will expect an easy Napoli win, Benevento will make life hard for us and although I do think we will come out with the 3 points I don’t think it will be as easy as many people are expecting, I think Napoli will come out 2-0 winners with goals from Marek Hamsik and Lorenzo Insigne.

Good preview. After a disappointing mercato, it’s almost a blessing to have a match against the team at the bottom of the table this weekend. I think it may take us awhile to get going in this one, but I do expect a fairly comfortable win.

And hopefully Ghoulam continues his amazing recovery and can get back in the lineup sooner rather than later.
